The Balkan Countries

In June 2019, my husband, David, and I traveled to the Balkans and I crossed 3 new countries off of my travel quest list: Montegnegro, (21 of 55), Bosnia (22 of 55) and Croatia (23 of 55). We enjoyed exploring each of the 3 countries and had a great time. ‘Like’ my facebook page for more photo albums.

In Montenegro, we enjoyed the coffee culture, the history, the old cities, the scenery and the amazing Montenegrin coastline. We stayed at the Monte Aria apartments in Herzeg Novi, which were super convenient, less crowded and more affordable than places around nearby Dubrovnik in Croatia. We visited Budva, the Bay and City of Kotor.

Bosnia is a beautiful and interesting country, we visited Mostar, Kravica Waterfall and Medjugorje. Stari Most, the old city of Mostar has been rebuilt, specifically the 16th century Ottoman bridge that had been destroyed during the 1990s conflicts. It is now a symbol or reconciliation, international co-operation and of the coexistence of diverse cultural, ethnic and religious communities. It's a meeting point of East and West, Christian and Muslim. We had a good chat with some locals about their life after the war and some family members that had been refugees to Germany after the war and then had to move to the US after the war was over since they couldn't return home.

Croatia had a beautiful coast line, friendly people, great coffee, beer and fish. I'm definitely going back!
